Avenue des Champs-Élysées is the most fashionable boulevard in Paris. Lining it from end to end, from the rond-point des Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe are stores carrying luxury branded names. This is the street on which having a store means having "arrived" in the fashion capital of the world.

Champs-Élysées takes its name from Greek mythology. It refers, in French, to the Elysian Fields, the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous. The avenue is 2 kilometers in length. It is located in the 8th arrondissement, from the Place de la Concorde in the east, to the Place de Charles de Gaulle in the west. It is part of the Axe historique, the "historical axis" that extends from the centre of Paris westwards.

In recent years, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées has been taken over by global brands all wanting to make their mark in the most stately address in Paris. It has changed the character of the avenue to the extend that in 2007, the City of Paris decided against allowing Swedish clothing label H&M from opening a store there. However the American clothing label Abercrombie & Fitch won the green light in 2008 (and will open some time in 2011).

The Avenue des Champs-Élysées is the venue of the annual military parade that takes place on Bastille Day in the presence of the President of the Republic.
