 Place de la Bastille, Paris
Place de la Bastille is a public square in Paris where the infamous Bastille prison once stood. The prison was destroyed during the Storming of the Bastille on the night of 14 July 1789 which triggered the French Revolution. Nothing is left of the prison today, and the place is now a square, with a number of sights within and around it.

At the center of the Place de la Bastille is the July Column which commemorates the July Revolution, also called the French Revolution of 1830, which overthrew King Charles X of France.
Today many concerts and outdoor events are staged at the Place de la Bastille. On the northeastern area are cafés, night clubs and concert halls. Due to its historical significance, the square also attracts its fair share of political demonstrations.
